Kids Kottage receives donations from groups and individuals in Washoe County. This voluntary support of the Kottage operation dramatically increases the quality of life afforded the children. The following organizations have been actively involved in the Kids Kottage for quite some time.
Reno Rodeo Foundation: The Reno Rodeo Foundation led the effort to construct the campus recreation center which was completed in 2008. Significant donations to the project were made by the Reno Rodeo Foundation, the Reno Rotary Club and the Washoe County Department of Social Services. Many other community members and businesses to numerous to mention were instrumental in providing resources to complete the recreation center.
During the four year fund raising process the Reno Rodeo Foundation became a strong supporter of the Kids Kottage programs. They developed and implemented an annual Denim Drive at Christmas time which provides jeans, socks and underwear for children at the Kottage and in foster homes throughout the community. This drive has become highly successful and is a high profile event for the Reno community. The Rodeo Foundation has invited the Kottage children and staff to participate in the Reno Rodeo parade representing the partnership between the Foundation and the Kottage.
Most recently the Foundation provided more than $25,000. To improve the outdoor play area at Kids Kottage purchasing new play ground equipment designed for older youth. Adams staff work diligently to build upon this relationship insuring the Foundation receives appreciation and recognition for all they do for the Kottage.
Charmanta: Charmanta has supported the Kottage for many years and continues to increase their efforts annually. This year, at Christmas, they donated 50 stuffed Christmas stockings worth $400. For the past ten years they conducted a “Trunk-or-Treat” party at Halloween. Children are able to walk around the campus parking area and trick-or-treat from the trunks of cars. Over the past several years they have donated end-of-the-year funds for major needs including bicycles, new game equipment and furniture. This year they are donating $6000 worth of new furniture. They have become, and continue to be, a very valuable friend of the Kottage.
A&H Insurance: For the past several years, this company has provided the opportunity for their employees to donate money toward the Kottage. The company then gives the corresponding check to the Kottage. Their continued support is greatly appreciated.
Children’s Cabinet: The Children’s Cabinet, located adjacent to Kids Kottage, is a non-profit organization providing services to families. These services include, but are not limited to, financial child care assistance, parental training, child evaluations, volunteer services and this past year, an opportunity for Kottage residents to learn to snowboard and ski at Mount Rose. The Director of the Children’s Cabinet works closely with the Kottage to provide clothing, toys, donated medical items, games and recreational activities to the Kottage.
Charter Communications: This company has graciously donated cable television service to the Kids Kottage for the past two years.
Lifetouch: Each child in care receives a complimentary package of his/her school pictures when they are taken during the school year. Lifetouch has provided this donation for the past eight years to literally hundreds of children.
Dr. James and Anne Carter-Hargrove: These supporters of the Kottage give numerous donations every year. Beautiful new clothes, designer swim trunks and food are just a few of the examples. Their total annual donations are usually valued at more than $5,000.
Soroptimist Club of Washoe Valley: For the past five years, this wonderful organization has put on a gala Christmas party with games, art projects, a pizza party and a trip from Santa. They solicit gift requests from each child. Each child is then provided the gift they have requested.
The club has also conducted ice cream sundae parties during the summer enjoyed by residents and staff members alike.
Wal-Mart: The organization has continued to donate underwear, clothing and other needed items for the residents of the Kottage.
Foster Grandparents: This program provides volunteers to assist staff with child care. These individuals provide children with an elderly role model and a “grandparent’s” perspective. Kottage staff use the Grandparents to provide one-on-one care to the more needy children and infants. Their responsibilities range from feeding and holding infants to helping in arts and crafts activities. ACTION sponsors the program at no cost to the Kottage.
Foster Grandparents have been utilized at the Kids Kottage since it opened in March of 1991. Currently there are two grandparents participating in the program. Foster Grandparents provide a valuable service to the Kottage and the children. Through the Grandparent’s interactions, the children can learn “living history.” The love and affection brought to the program by the Foster Grandparents are invaluable.
St. Rose Catholic Church: This Church has made a large donation for the past three years in preparation for school. This has included backpacks, school supplies, and gift cards to allow the children to purchase new outfits for the beginning of the school year. This donation has been several thousand dollars each year.
Reno Rotary Club: In addition to this club’s large donation for the classroom in the activity center, it has conducted a service project for the Kottage for the past two years. This project has resulted in the building of a fence, the establishment of a Kottage Garden, and painting of several sidewalk games for visitors to use as they spend time with their children. Additionally, a cookout was provided to our residents during each of these events.
Koz’s Kloset: For the past several years, this organization has provided the children of the Kottage with suitcases, backpacks, shoes, clothing, and other items that the children tend to need. Additionally, they have sponsored a pajama/ movie night in November and this year sponsored a trip to Wild Islands for the entire facility. |
