Shriver Job Corps, a 19 acre center built in 1997, serves 600 students annually in Devens, Massachusetts and is named after Sargent Shriver, bother- in-law to President John F. Kennedy, who tasked Sargent Shriver with putting the Job Corps together. Devens, formally known as Fort Devens Military Base is a beautiful northern central rural community in Massachusetts with tree-lined streets, clean and quiet recreational areas and open space. Our 4 dormitories which host 272 residential students has 2 and 4 people rooms, common areas, pool tables, laundry facilities and computer rooms. Shriver also has a recreational building for our students to enjoy a student store and coffee house, a workout and weight room, handball court, area for skateboarding, pool tables, ping pong and air hockey as well as indoor and outdoor basketball courts. Shriver students get involved with community events, arts and crafts, volleyball, the basketball and softball teams, fun days and recreational trips to historical Boston, Plymouth and Salem. Many of our graduates are placed in above average paying jobs with these unions after graduation from Shriver. Not only does Shriver strongly encourage our students to increase their educations and employability skills we also offer Peer Directed Program, Student Government Association and Diversity Committee to increase social and leadership skills to be used in the work force.
