Glenmont Job
Corps Center
The Glenmont Job Corps Academy
is located just 5 miles
south of Albany, New York. The campus is approximately
100 prime acres of picturesque country property adjacent to the Hudson River. The Academy provides training services to approximately 700
students annually.
Students attending this campus are primarily from the New
York City, Yonkers, Poughkeepsie,
Capital District and Upstate New York
areas.
The Glenmont Job Corps Academy houses approximately 340 students in four on-campus
dorms and offers career technical training in 6 career paths as well as a GED program,
on-line High School Diploma, Career Success Standards, Student Government, Leadership
and soon to be added, Security and Military Careers Preparation (MILCAP) Programs.
The Glenmont Job Corps Academy was formerly known as “Our Lady of Angels Seminary” prior to becoming the New York Job Corps Center in 1976. It is evident that the
Academy was a former seminary because of its two chapels that have beautiful stained glass windows and copper roofs. The Academy is scheduled to undergo a number of
much needed updates which will include an addition to the Recreational Field House.
The addition of space will greatly enhance the activities available to students
during their leisure time hours. In the future, the Academy will be getting new
dormitories with many updated features.
While the Academy is located in a rural setting, it is only 5 – 10 minutes
from either Glenmont or Albany. Albany is the Capitol of New York State and has many
wonderful sites to visit. The Albany area offers many opportunities for students
seeking leisure time employment, Work Based Learning, and community service opportunities.
Graduates willing to relocate will find a competitive job market and affordable housing.
