The Glenmont Job Corps Center is located in Glenmont, NY, just 10 minutes south of downtown Albany. Glenmont houses 243 residential students and 23 non-residential students. It offers vocational training in 6 trades, a GED program, high school diploma programs and college certification/degree programs though Hudson Valley Community College and Schenectady Community College. The majority of the students are from New York, primarily New York City, Hudson Valley and the Capital Region.
The Glenmont Center sits on 82 acres on the banks of the Hudson River. It recently received a $25 million makeover, including 2 new dorms and a renovated recreation center. The Center works closely with the Bethlehem Police Department on community safety issues.
Students can participate in the Student Government Association, peer leadership classes, seasonal sports teams and various student clubs. They also enjoy educational field trips, job site visits and offsite recreational activities such as shopping trips, movies and the Kick for Kids competition. Onsite recreational offerings include arts & crafts, a weight room, competitions, board games and a recreation room with pool tables and ping pong tables.
Students are active participants in local community service projects such as Albany Pal Holiday Light, Equinox Thanksgiving Dinner, Simple Giving, the Town of Bethlehem fall and spring clean-up operations and the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society recycling fundraising project.
