The Hartford Job Corps Center is located in Hartford, Connecticut, approximately 3.2 miles southwest of downtown Hartford. The Center serves 116 residential students and 65 non-residential students. It offers vocational training in 4 trades, a high school diploma program, a high school equivalency program and college certification/degree programs through a number of north central Connecticut community colleges including Capital Community College in Hartford. Approximately 75% of students are from Connecticut, with the remainder from other parts of New England.
The Hartford Center was built in 2004 and sits on 10 acres, less than 10 minutes from Trinity College. The site had previously been used during World War II for war housing for defense workers. Hartford’s location gives it near-immediate access to shopping, entertainment and public transportation.
Students can participate in the Student Government Association, peer leadership classes, seasonal sports teams and various student clubs such as the fitness club and the book club. They also enjoy educational field trips, job site visits and offsite recreational activities.
Students are active members of the Hartford community and provide community service to various organizations and local events such as Cancer/AIDs walks, nursing homes, soup kitchens and clean ups of public parks.
