More than 100 guests gathered at the Cascades College & Career Academy Open House to learn more about this new Job Corps pilot program. Among the important guests were U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Christopher Lu, Job Corps National Director Lenita Jacobs-Simmons, Job Corps’ Marcus Gray and San Francisco Regional Director Brian Daher. Others included Congressional staff members, the Washington State Governor’s staff, local and regional elected officials, Cascades’ academic partners and Chamber of Commerce officials.
The event included an informational tour with Academy Director David Miller and a reception, during which Deputy Secretary Lu explained that the Cascades Academy will be different from other Centers in the four key areas to include admissions requirements, training programs, academics, and non-cognitive programming.
The Skagit Valley Herald covered the event in the next day’s issue.
