jo_culinarycollegeThe Joliet Job Corps Center’s Culinary Arts students visited Joliet Junior College on Oct. 27 to see the work of Chef Michael McGreal and his students in the college’s culinary arts program.

Center students toured the department and sampled the menu at Saveur, the college student-run restaurant. They learned about a program that offers prospective culinary arts students the opportunity to serve as “chef for the day.” This experience allows participants to learn more about training for successful careers in the food service industry.

The college students also prepared a delicious lunch for their guests, including focaccia and an herb bread, two kinds of homemade butter, cheese burgers served on pretzel buns and a banana bread cheesecake.

The visit showed Center students that while they have learned a lot in the Culinary Arts program at the Center, there’s more work ahead if they want to advance their careers. They now had more information to decide if they would like to attend college or perhaps go to Job Corps Advanced Training.
