GL_readacross2Twelve Glenmont Job Corps Center students took part in a Read to Lead event where they visited local elementary schools and read books to the children there.

Students Destiny Batista, Zion Curtis, Destiny Fitzgerald, Dymond Hicks, Albert Hinds, Anthony Joiner and Princess Williams, Kristopher Brown, Danielle Croskey, Gerald Griffin Jr., Brandon Krenzer, and Dorothy LaPierre participated in the event. Each was excited to have this opportunity to share stories with the children.

They visited a second, third, and fourth grade classrooms at New Scotland Elementary School in Albany, Loudonville Elementary School in Loundonville and Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School in Revena. The event followed three months of preparation from the Glenmont students. They showcased their impeccable literacy skills and did an outstanding job.

Upon arrival to the first school, the students were nervous but quickly found their comfort zones once they saw how receptive the children were to the activity. The students and staff at the elementary schools gave high ratings to the professional presentations. Several teachers even asked if the students would come again to do another activity with them.

The visit was definitely an authentic learning experience that will be remembered by all.
