FG_breanalaurentFlint Genesee Job Corps Center graduate Breana Laurent has completed the Detroit Police Academy and officially joined the department.

Breana came to Flint in 2014 when she was 16 and needed to complete her high school diploma. She completed the Retail Sales trade and then petitioned for the ability to enroll in the Certified Nursing Assistant program, which she completed near her 17th birthday. Upon graduation, she moved with her family to Florida and began working in retail.

She returned to Flint/Genesee in 2017, now with a young son, Kayden. She enrolled in the Homeland Security trade and became Student Government Association Vice President. This time, she planned to join the Detroit Police Department upon trade completion.

After months of hard work and patience, Breana enrolled into the 2018/2019 Winter B Recruit Class. She completed the academy 26 weeks later and received her badge from the Detroit Chief of Police on March 29.

Though her strong work ethic and determination, Breana has positioned herself and her son for a successful future.
