New Hampshire Job Corps Center student Sapphire Barrows has completed the Homeland Security trade and enrolled into NHTI, Concord’s Community College. Her enrollment is part of the Center’s Advanced Training program.
She was so excited that she wanted to share her journey thus far.
“Here it is! I am officially a college student. Not only that, but I am the first one out of all 6 of my siblings to go to college.
In 2014, I graduated from high school and really wanted to go to college. At that time, I was not ready nor did I have the financial means. College was always my dream because if you don’t know me, I love to learn.
For years, I felt like I was selling myself short by settling for a 40-hour a week job and, to be honest, I was. I could afford to pay all my bills, but I never really had a chance to save or get ahead.
Thanks to New Hampshire Job Corps Center, here I am! I’m saving money, working and going to college. My career goal has always been to become a State Trooper. I am beginning that journey by studying Criminal Justice, and I am already halfway through the my first semester.
The only way I have conquered my dreams this far is by staying positive, never giving up, and most of all, having faith and believing in myself. My advice to my fellow peers is shoot for the stars! One thing I have learned since I got to Job Corps almost 7 months ago is that if you put your mind to something, then anything is possible.”
