Glenmont Job Corps Center Facilities Maintenance students are currently removing the sidewalk between the Career Technical Training and Career Transition Services Building as part of their concrete unit.
The existing sidewalk had become worn down and broken over the years and was in need of replacement. Students are using the project to gain valuable experience and knowledge in the concrete field while working toward their trade completion. In addition to demolition, students are learning how to order concrete, types of concrete and additives in concrete. They are estimating concrete volume, placing forms, and learning about concrete finishing.
When this project is complete the Center will have a great looking new sidewalk, and Facilities Maintenance students will have a working knowledge of how to work with concrete.
