Gianna, who has earned her GED and trade completions in Certified Nursing Assistant and Office Administration, was so excited and honored to receive this special scholarship, which goes towards furthering her education. She plans to move to Florida to start college in September. Her positivity and strong determination perfectly embody the scholarship motto of “aspiring higher.”
In her scholarship essay, Gianna wrote, “…[T]o receive this scholarship would not only mean the world to me, but prove to myself that everything I overcame was worth it because I am making it somewhere and achieving excellence. This would be my chance to say to those who told me I couldn’t do it that not only did I cross the stage at 17 but I crossed it with a scholarship that I earned on my own. This is an amazing opportunity that I worked my entire life aiming for and no matter what, I will continue to aim and aspire higher.”
Scholarship founders Evelyn and Jeff Weller visited the Center to meet with Gianna and announce her as the winner. The Kiki’s Garden Krista Weller Burns Foundation Aspire Achievement Award is to honor the memory of Krista Weller Burns, who served two terms as an Exeter Town council member. She assisted State and Federal officials in their efforts to bring Job Corps to Exeter because she believed in the Job Corps mission. Evelyn and Jeff Weller now carry on their daughter’s legacy by supporting aspiring individuals who share her passion for creating goodwill and helping themselves and others grow and learn.
Congratulations Gianna and good luck on the next chapter of your journey. Your smiling and positive presence at Exeter will be missed but never forgotten. The Center also thanks the Weller Family for continuing to show their passion and support for the Center and the Job Corps mission.
