KS_culinarycenter2The Keystone Job Corps Center Culinary Center is preparing for its reopening, which will demonstrate the skills of Keystone Construction students.

The Culinary Center was in need of significant renovation and modernization. Keystone decided to develop a project to restore it with two major goals, make Culinary the showplace of the Center and provide valuable training to Construction students.

The scope of the project was very aggressive, with a goal of revising the appearance of the large group area. It was truly a team effort with extensive coordination of work by all the trades involved. Plaster students installed drywall, Brick students installed a new fire and updated several walls with a brick finish and Painting students provided the final paint for the walls and window finishing. Carpentry students then installed new window casings. After water infiltration was discovered behind the existing unit, Brick students even constructed a new fireplace. Finally, Electric students implemented electrical upgrades, along with the installation of more user-friendly IT equipment.

The finished result clearly shows the skills of our students and the result of the Job Corps training they have received.

The Culinary Center will host Keystone functions, meetings, luncheons, training and student gatherings. It will also serve as an ideal site for community events such as the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfasts, Partners in Education meetings and educational sessions and PA Career-Link and Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board events.
