Amber struggled a great deal when she first arrived at Job Corps, to the point where she was on a path to termination. She managed to overcome this trend of poor decisions with supportful remediation from her Glenmont case management team, as well as Center Director Erin Ferguson. Soon enough, the Center saw a completely different Amber.
She completed her High School Diploma and trade and passed her state certification test. She even became one of the first students to be a part of the new 12-week paid internship at the Teresian House. Amber graduated on June 7, just shy of a year after enrolling, with her own apartment and a full-time job in her trade.
Amber sent the staff this message “Glenmont Jobs Corps helped me grow as a person. I was a bad student when I got there, but those days that went by made me a strong person and led me down the right path. I am very thankful for everyone there but most of all I have to give a big thank you to Ms. Ferguson because if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. And also Ms. Dearstyne, because if it wasn’t for her being my dorm staff and helping me through everything I would have left Job Corps a long time ago.”
Amber, Glenmont is so proud of you! You have shown what this program is all about! Thank you for letting Job Corps be part of your success story!
