He started the program August 6, 2018 with a very low English proficiency level. In just shy of a year later he is communicating very well, and at times has acted as an interpreter for staff to other ESL students who are still learning. Charles exceeded program expectations, upholding a Gold Status in student conduct and eventually being awarded a Gold Card. He has always been respectful to his peers and staff and has a cheerful demeanor all of the time.
He has remained focused on his goals of becoming an RN, and he has completed Certified Medical Assistant program with flying colors. He plans to attend summer classes in Sacramento at a local college. He expressed to his Success Team Leaders in a recent success panel his gratitude and appreciation of having had the opportunity to be a Treasure Island student. Charles explained that he has gained superb vocational skills that he will use in his near future. Additionally, he has gained social skills, confidence and responsibility.
