GL_alexriveraorlandomonteroGlenmont Job Corps Center graduates Alexander Matias-Rivera and Orlando Montero have started their new professional careers with Lewis Lawn Care and Masonry and Rochester Gears, respectively.

Alexander came to Glenmont in July 2017 as a 17 -year-old with the hopes of obtaining his high school diploma, driver’s license, and completing his trade. While Orlando enrolled into the program a bit later, in April 2018 as a 16-year-old hoping to “gain structure and obtain a better life for himself and his family.” Alex and Orlando both chose to pursue Facilities Maintenance, and quickly became role models for their peers.

Alex and Orlando worked diligently to complete trade along with their High School Diploma simultaneously. In the midst of their hard work, both students were able obtain their driver’s licenses. Alex and Orlando completed trade in September and October and their High School Diplomas in January. They graduated in February and March.

Upon graduation, Alex immediately began work in his field as a warehouse associate for Reliant Staffing Systems. Not long after, he decided to better himself and search for a job with higher pay. Alex began employment with Lewis Lawn Care and Masonry in June, making more money and getting more hours than before. Since his graduation from center, Alex has grown within his career field and has also gotten married, along with his own apartment and a baby on the way! Alex also just bought his first car.

Orlando was a direct placement into a full time job upon his graduation. He began work for Rochester Gears, Inc. in Rochester, NY, as a full time employee with full benefits. Currently, Orlando is saving up for a car and an apartment while with supporting his wife and son.

Orlando and Alex both thanked Job Corps for turning their lives around. Congratulations Alex and Orlando!
