The Joliet Job Corps Center is located in Joliet, IL, less than an hour’s drive from downtown Chicago. The Joliet Center houses 223 residential students and 32 non-residential students. It offers vocational training in 8 trades, a GED program, an online high school diploma program and college certifications/degree programs through Joliet Junior College. The majority of students come from the state of Illinois, and in particular, Cook and Will counties.
The Joliet Center sits on 59 acres on what was previously the site of the Joliet East High School. The Center is serviced by the Metra train, which takes many students home to Chicago for the weekend.
Students can participate in the Student Government Association, peer leadership classes, “Footsteps” mentor program, seasonal sports teams and various student clubs. They also enjoy educational field trips, job site visits and offsite recreational activities such as community fairs and trips to movies and museums. Onsite recreational offerings include arts & crafts, a reading room, study lounge, workout room, weight room and recreation room.
Students are active members of the Joliet community through Joliet Junior College, Catholic Charities’ Back to School Fair, Will County’s State’s Attorney’s Office’s Take Back the Night, Forest Park Community Center food drive and the Forest Preserve District of Will County.
